Quantity surveying for the 21st Century

Traditional quantity surveying has evolved significantly in the last 25 years and we often find ourselves advising on costs in a more global way.

Our cost management experience extends from the preparation of development appraisals at inception/site acquisition stage through to a full range of pre and post contract surveying services. For many clients we offer a handover service and facilitate post completion reviews.

We procure projects using a variety of contract forms. Depending on the project particulars and client brief, a project could be procured through partnering, alliances, negotiation, design and build, single stage competitive tendering and two stage tendering.

Inception

At an early stage it is important to establish the viability of a scheme. The sharing of knowledge with the client and designers enables a development appraisal to be produced by the following means:

Feasibility cost planning
Life cycle costing
Cash flow forecasting
Market research
Risk management

Construction

We work in tandem with the client and designers to establish the optimal method of procurement and the most suitable contract forms. All in-house documents have been updated during the course of 2006 to comply with the updated NEC and JCT forms of contract which are utilised throughout the Practice as a matter of course.

The early establishment of roles and responsibilities, individual scope of work and the project team’s understanding of the chosen method of procurement enable us to act effectively and efficiently in the construction process by way of:

Supply chain management
Preparation of tender and contract documentation
Provision of pre tender estimates
Agreement of contract strategies
Ongoing cost management
  Risk management
  Value management
  Out turn life cycle-costing
  Cost control
  Elemental cost benchmarking
  Final account

For many clients’ we act as employer’s agent/project manager and as such, manage the change process throughout the construction phase.

Post Completion
We aim to ensure total cost transparency throughout the development process and actively manage cost reporting to avoid any hidden costs at completion.

At completion stage we are instrumental in:

Final account negotiation and preparation
Post development appraisal
Capital allowances and taxation advice

We are currently collaborating with a number of clients to develop web based information management systems. This enables project data uploads and on line cost reporting to be available 24 hours a day.
