Henry Riley understands that sustainability is at the forefront of the design and development of every construction project.
In April 2006 the new part L Building Regulations were implemented with the objective to reduce building carbon emissions by more than 25% over and above the previous regulations of 2002.
We work closely with other professionals to ensure our clients are provided with cost effective solutions to help reduce these emissions.
To serve the needs of our clients in this area we:
Structure, develop and implement procurement strategies that maximise selection criteria based upon value for money principle
Provide cost effective advice on alternative design options having regard to whole life costs rather than mere acquisition costs, especially where energy consumption is concerned
Ensure schemes adopt procedures whereby resources are optimised and waste is eliminated from process and materials
Structure project agreements that encourage approaches towards sustainable development
Identify how the benefits of economic decisions when made, support the environmental and social objectives.
An example of this is our work with Imperial College London. We currently sit on their Framework Energy Working Group, which is a committee charged with proactively generating new ideas to maximise sustainability.
We also have initiated an internal Sustainability and Environmental forum, headed by our Sustainability and Environmental Champion, who was a founding member of the Green Register. The group has a strategic responsibility of ensuring Henry Riley is continually kept up to date with new developments within the industry. This enables us to develop our skills and knowledge by sharing ideas and learning from others experiences’. This information is then disseminated across our teams. |
