Rutland County Council - The Big Build
18th Aug 2008

Henry Riley is delighted to be involved with the new Rutland County Council project known as “The Big Build”.

This £27M project will result in a brand new secondary college which will replace the Vale of Catmose College and provide a new Community Sports Centre together with facilities for Family Support, Adult Learning and Childcare across an inclusive Community campus. The design will create open, light, inspiring spaces where people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds will be able to learn in flexible ways supported by the latest technology.

The new sports centre will be able to offer everyone a wide range of community sports and recreational facilities both indoors and outdoors and include:

• 8 Badminton Court Hall
• 2 Activity Studios
• Fitness Suite
• All Weather Pitch
• Outdoor tennis/basketball courts

All the buildings will be integrated by a public piazza with a focus on pedestrian and cyclist routes with planting to soften the development into the surrounding countryside. All cars and buses will come to the site off Barleythorpe Road via Huntsman’s Drive.

Henry Riley has been appointed as Cost Consultants on this project from Stage C to completion, with HRSL providing M&E Cost advice. Other key consultants include Ellis Miller Architects and Buro Four Project Managers.

Upon completion and opening of the new College, the existing buildings will be demolished and the land developed for housing.

The project is programmed to start on site January 2009 with a proposed completion ready for the new term in September 2010.
