Successful Completion of Memorial Gates
14th Aug 2003
Memorial Gates on Constitution Hill
Henry Riley, acting as Cost Consultants, have recently been involved in the successful completion of the Memorial Gates on Constitution Hill.
Whilst the project was completed in May, the official opening ceremony conducted by Her Majesty The Queen, took place on Wednesday 6th November 2002.
The scheme, which was developed from a design competition, comprises four 8.5m high Portland Stone Piers, each capped with a magnificent bronze urn. Adjacent to the piers and at the edge of Green Park lies a Portland stone pavilion with a domed roof. Red granite, bronze street lights and bronze bollards complete the scheme at a total cost of £1.6 million
The Memorial, partially funded by the Millennium Commission, is to commemorate the First and Second World War Hero?s from India, Africa, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Caribbean. The recipients of the Victoria and George Crosses from these countries have been carefully inscribed in bronze lettering on the inside of the dome roof to the pavilion. |
