Henry Riley helps London Scheme
14th Aug 2003

London's South Bank apartment development

As quantity surveyors and cost consultants, Henry Riley is helping breathe new life into a derelict site in London?s South Bank area after the completion of a £4.5m apartment development.

Bermondsey Street, located close to London Bridge, presented the developer, Blueroom Properties, with a major regeneration opportunity.

Working with the construction team at Buxton Homes, Henry Riley had to overcome tight space restrictions for a new build project in such a well built-up, urban area.

Once a scheme was devised, the infill site could be successfully transformed into a mixed use block of eight apartments, one penthouse and two commercial units on the ground floor.

The penthouse design includes an impressive roof terrace with excellent views of the capital.

Kevin Drysdale, associate at Henry Riley, has been managing the project. He said: ?Bermondsey Street presented us with its fair share of challenges over the last 10 months, due to restriction of space and access but we have been careful not to lose sight of the end vision of a prestigious development with strong architectural identity which I believe has been successfully achieved.?

The five-storey block is built of timber frame with rain screen cladding to external faces and internal timber stud walls. While this approach creates a number of technical challenges, the construction process is speedier.
